A Movie Recital

Prize-winning Dutch director Ellen Blom created a film clip to my recorder Quartet’s third movement, now touring in a show staged by Brisk Recorder Quartet Amsterdam with the untranslatable title BLIK (meaning both ‘view’ and the tin film container). Brisk: BLIKThey play five compositions (by Roderik de Man, Timuçin Sahin, Roy Kuschel, Arnold Veeman and myself) with five film clips especially tailored to them (by directors Marcel Prins, Oerd van Cuijlenborg, Dick Tuinder, Anne de Clerq en Ellen Blom), the whole performance staged by Bart Kiene and Peter Oskam.
I would say the show is…truly poetic, with sometimes the music, sometimes the movies taking the lead, each in their own way marking out an emotional area were words will never really succeed.
BLIK: in view of being looked at.
