New Piece for the Bartók Trio

On November 7, 2004 The Bartók Trio played the world premiere of my brand new Trio for violin, clarinet and piano, written especially for them on a commission by the ThuisKopie Fonds. The beautiful acoustics of Bunnik’s Old Reformed Church supported an inspired performance, lucky to have been captured by a Concertzender recording.

The program included Brahm’s Pianoquartet no. 1 in g minor, op. 25 and Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet op. 79, played by the Arto Ensemble.

Brahms? Mozart?…ah, well, I was surprised to find that my new piece was not that much out of place in these in these ‘classical’ surroundings.
Actually, the combination worked out quite beautifully.

The Bartók Trio consists of Hungarian-born Marta Abraham (violin), American-born Nancy Braithwaite (clarinet) and Netherlands-born Bas Verheijden (piano). The Arto Ensemble: Marta Abraham (violin), Prunella Pacey (altviool), Nancy Braithwaite (clarinet) and Guus Fabius (cello).

The Concertzender broadcast the concert on Tuesday, 5th and Wednesday, 13th of April 2005.
